Race report - RCGP Event One
Weather was crazy with very strong cold winds every day. I was freezing like never before, and I have been feeling cold since Friday.
I had a good qualifying on Saturday but from there I went downhill. I’m not best friend with the gate starts and it was very frustrating this time. My whole package was amazing but it seemed like I was never able to catch a break.. 🤕
Had a DNF in A1 and a 2nd place in A2 on Saturday afternoon which put me 9th as both races counts towards the overall. In other words it was one to forget haha! Great job to Joe Bornhorst for taking the win👏🏻
I relaxed a bit on Saturday night back at the house and charged my batteries to go for it in Rd2 of the series on Sunday. Again I had great speed in seeding and qualifying but my starts were a disaster.. I tried to put my head down the best I could to somehow get into the top 3 after quali and make it into the Super Pole.
After getting 4th in Q3 I walked off the driver stand as I was sure I didn’t make it into the top 3. The officials stopped me however and told me I was third haha! So me, Joe and Brandon was going to get 3 laps each on the track and whoever made the fastest lap was starting on pole for the 1h main.
Personally I love the Super Pole, but I think the guy who TQs qualifying should be on pole for the main, then you can race it for 2nd-5th position on the grid. So I can feel for Joe who TQd 3 out of 3 rounds. I would have felt the same in that position.
However it wasn’t the case this time and I just tried to make the best out the situation. I started out with a 29.3 and it was a close to perfect lap which I knew was going to require something very good from Joe and Brandon. They were not able to beat it and I would get the Pole for the main. Maybe things was going to turn around for me after all😎
With the normal grid start for the hour main, I just tried to keep it clean on the first couple of laps. I did just that and felt very comfortable pushing, I built up a gap and as the others started to battle behind me I was in full control of the race👌🏼
In the end I took the win by a little more than a lap from Cole Tollard who ran very strong and finished 2nd both days! Great job👏🏻
All in all it ended up being a great weekend, I’m learning the car more and more every time and this just shows it also works very well on a high bite track!
Thanks to everyone involved in making the RCGP series happen! And to all my sponsors for all your great products making it possible for me to be on the top of the game!💪🏼
