Not a winning weekend at the 2023 Visions event, but it was a good weekend
Report from
Visions Off-Road 2023
Not a winning weekend at the 2023 Visions event, but it was a good weekend. The revised track drove well and the new dirt held up better than expected. As many discussed, the track layout was a little simple, but it wasn’t easy either. The heads-up format, minimal passing area and precise style made qualifying just that more important. On the weekend, I finished 3rd overall in the invite nitro buggy class and 4th overall in the E-buggy class.
________
I’m not completely satisfied with the results due to an issue coming out of the pits during the deciding A3 main event, but we will move on to the next one. I felt I had an opportunity to take a win or at least 2nd overall, but, settled for 3rd. Either way, it felt like Ty’s weekend and congratulations to him on the overall victory.
________
I feel I’m starting to settle in with the Tekno vehicles, the team, new faces, and those who choose the vehicles on their own dollar. I haven’t altered too much since the ROAR nationals on the setup and sticking near home base on the tuning. More than anything, we tried several tires on the weekend due to the new conditions and weather. I drove Kosmos, Recon, and Reflex the entire time and gravitated toward Reflex in blue compound during the last 2 main events.
________
For some reason, this track was not easy on fuel mileage so I was cautious with my driving and conserved when possible. It was nice having Drew Spurgeon in the pits and helping all weekend long. The ProTek RC RM edition engine ran well and super consistent in all temperatures.
________
The facility out at Midamerica Outdoors is definitely something to see. The property improvements were visible everywhere and it felt like the overall event is growing in popularity. When we had the time, we checked out and sat in the bleachers and cheered on everything from UTV racers, to Electric Rally cars. In the end, we got up to Travis Pastrana's Nitro Circus for the final highlight of the weekend.
_________
Thanks to Brandon Rohde and LiveRC for helping to make this invitational style event a reality and the race check bonus structure is a huge plus. Joey Christensen and the Dirt Crew built an even better track than last year and Jimmy Babcock did his thing as usual and kept the races moving.
_________
Thanks to Matt from Tekno for the help and pit organization, along with all my teammates. Troy from A-Main was amazing all week keeping tabs on the ProTek RC team and running the try-me track for spectators to get involved in RC. Jason Ruona with JConcepts was on-hand with product available and keeping us in the loop. I simply could not do it without these people.
