Great weekend at the ROAR E-Nationals at CRC Raceway
________
The event didn’t start that well for me but after running through several different things with Jared Wiggins we started to climb the rankings. The track was a lot harder than I believe anyone figured, with several sections getting notched sections or jumps with broken faces. We had to be on our toes the entire qualifiers and main events to run without mistakes.
________
The latest Hobbywing Xerun XR8 Pro G3 speed control and Motor G3 2200 was so good. The smaller footprint, new braking adjustments, I still have more to learn, but I’m happy I had these in for the event. The 7 minute qualifiers and mains made for good opportunities to tune on the Tekno ET and EB’s. Softening up the entire vehicles really helped and after several variations and spring changes, we got close to where we could begin feeling out tire compounds and treads a little better. I was able to debut the new S15 body on the ET and I felt it balanced the look and drive-ability more like the buggy which was running a little quicker for me all-weekend.
________
We started on the usual Reflex tire in blue and green compound. A threat of rain allowed us to run more green on the first day of qualifying and even ran some Relapse to try and smooth out the response. Ultimately, I went back to blue Reflex as the track got harder and the rocks in the surface started to come up. The slightly harder tire worked better and I got more competitive.

The first 2 main events in the 1/8th truck class went to Ty and he got to sit out the 3rd main. In A3 I worked my way up to the lead and held on for the win. The track got a little slower during the day, so I was unable to win the tie-break for 2nd overall and settled for 3rd. Congrats to Ty Tessmann on the win and Tater Sontag for 2nd.
_________
The E-Buggy mains were fun. I moved into contention in A1 and held the lead for several laps when I and launched into the infield. I fought back and came within a few tenths of Ty for the win. A2 I managed to get out front after battling with Ty and we had some good clean racing. I was finding my groove with the track conditions and just in time for the final race. A3 started much the same as the others and I found myself in 2nd right away. Ty made a small mistake and I muscled by, to take over the lead. The track conditions were getting a little worn down so I concentrated on not losing time and just hitting my marks and staying out front. I could see a gap back to 2nd and I just tried to maintain some cushion to the finish. I was able to cross to take the overall victory with Ty in 2nd and Ryan Lutz finishing 3rd overall.
_________
Thanks to Jared Wiggins and Dave Hemenway from Tekno for the help and pit organization, along with all my teammates. Jason Ruona with JConcepts was on-hand with product available and keeping us in the loop while Hannah kept us updated with fresh photos and content. I simply could not do it without a team.
