The 2024 Beast of the East Triple Crown is in the books with over 300 entries!
I did the usual Ironman work by running 5 classes. Due to the low temps, I was on JConcepts Ellipses (sanded down to slicks) in Green compound in all vehicles throughout the weekend. I coupled those with FDJ Motorsports Apple/dew (green/yellow dot) for tire sauce.
In Expert 13.5 4wd, I was able to get the TQ for Round 2, but ended up starting 3rd in the main. In the main I had a good battle with Christopher Kendall, Frank Deiny, and Jose Zayas for most of the race. Ultimately I finished 4th.
In Expert 17.5 2wd, I qualified 6th. In the main, Colton Kruse pretty much checked out and left Frank Deiny, Ryan Caudel, and myself to battle it out for 2nd. In the end, I was able to get by Frank after he had a bobble on the last lap to finish 3rd.
In 4wd Mod, I qualified 6th. In the main, my car was good and I was running in 4th for most of the race. An unfortunate altercation with a crashed car dropped me back to 6th late in the race. Sarah Ann Due and Frank both got by and proceeded to battle. I stuck close and was able to get by Frank for 5th on the last lap.
In 2wd mod, I qualified 5th. In the main I was able to capitalize on a mistake by Josh Parrish early to run 4th for most of the race. Josh was able get by me with a couple laps to go and I was relegated to 5th.
And finally, 4wd SCT. Thanks to Tommie Cole for the rent-a-ride and Josh for the body. I literally practiced one time on Friday morning and was able to qualify 4th. In the main, I was up and down from 2nd to 7th while Ryan Caudel was checking out on the field. In typical 4wd SCT fashion, the racing was chaotic and at time pretty brutal. I was able to go from 6th to 4th on the last lap with other drivers bashing on each other ahead of me.
Overall I was pretty pleased to get on the podium in all 5 classes. We had a great time in the "Tent city" pits under the Privateer Race Products canopies. We had 4 tents in a square with walls all around. A couple propane heaters provded plenty of warmth. Sarah Ann and Chad Due with their daugther Cali, Eric Washburn, Josh Parrish, and Ryan Caudle made the down time a lot of fun. The rain on Saturday caused some issues as we had Lake Due in one area and the Due family moved indoors for the rest of the day, but returned for mains day as everything dried out nicely.
Shout outs to Brandon Melton for runnung a pretty flawless race program (it always make the weekend better when everything is on time a goes smoothly); Chad Bunn, Luis Diego, and the World of R/C Parts & Thunder Alley R/C Speedway crew for providing a great track; Keenan Keith White, Patrick Rossiter, Dany Paz, and the rest of the Elite RC Productions crew for the excellent coverage; and all the racers, both local and those from out of state, for making this the largest event to date at this facility.
Heading back here next weekend for the World of RC’s 2nd Annual Vintage World Classic. Going to be fun wheeling some older classic cars!
Thanks as always to my sponsors that help me enjoy this hobby:
