Made it home late last night from this year’s installment of the #DNC.
Most of the week was honestly a bit of a struggle for me. I had some shining moments with decent qualifying efforts in both buggy classes making it straight to the mains, but not so much in the truck classes having to run the B mains in those.
On Saturday in the Nitro Truck B, I just never really found my flow and lost touch with the front of the field and never really was in contention for the bump. With the world level competition that was in attendance you have to be on top of your game in every class, and I just wasn’t quite there all week in that one.
The Ebuggy final later that evening starting from the 10 spot is always an interesting race every year. Lots of crashing, takeouts, and everything in between happens in a sprint race like that on a gnarly track. I worked my way up a bit, went to the back, worked my way up again and got sent right to the back at the end ending in P9. No real racing luck on my side in that one but I did all I could.
Sunday came and with that another day of mains in two more classes. Up first for me was the Etruck B main. This honestly was one of my best drives of the week in my opinion. I made an early mistake and was almost last, but dug about as deep as I ever have before and made it all the way back up to the bump spot by the end, crossing the line within two tenths of Canas and Ronnefalk all for bump spots. Then later on in the A main, it was a lot like the Ebuggy main on Saturday night and was full on carnage in the pack. I really think I had a top 5 truck but had to settle for 10th after some incidents.
One of the biggest focuses at this race is always the Nitro Buggy final on Sunday night. We got an A main practice about mid day, and I quickly realized I wasn’t where I needed to be in terms of speed next to my competitors. Billy and I went back and made a pretty bold call to basically wholesale my whole setup and essentially copy my teammate Elliott Boots who had been killing it all week. Billy worked his ass off for me getting the car switched over, I got tires and whatever else I could ready and before we knew it, it was main event time. Starting P9, I was focused on getting a good start and was ready to avoid some carnage. As things settled down a few minutes in, I found myself in P4 and was ready to get to work. My car was feeling much better than in the practice and I was in the battle. I bounced around from 4th to 6th kind of the whole race, having what seemed like a never ending battle with SR for 4th, ending my race with a solid P5. In what could’ve been a worlds final any year, top 5 is an accomplishment and I’m proud of the result.
Huge thanks to all of my sponsors and supporters for everything this week. Team SWORKz had an awesome showing with 6 cars in the buggy final. Shoutout to the JC crew for having everything we needed trackside, and always making new items to help us at these races, to Billy for being one hell of a mechanic and part time psychologist for me (lol), and everyone else that helps me do what I get to do. I’m more appreciative than you’ll ever know.
Next up for me is a big life changing event! I’ll be skipping both PNB and 1/10 Nationals as my wife and I are expecting a daughter in the middle of April! I have hopes of going to Silver State in the beginning of May and will be ready to do so, but if I need to stay home from that also, I will. Time will tell! Thank you to my sponsors for the full understanding of this and allowing me to take the time needed.
Hope to see you all soon! ✌️
