It’s time to unload and recover from the 2024 Silver State Nitro Challenge
Report from
Silver State Indoor Championships 2024
After making the drive home, it’s time to unload and recover from the 2024 Silver State Nitro Challenge. Overall, it felt like a fantastic event and I’m glad this one is on the schedule. As always, thanks to Joey, Aaron, Jimmy, Kenny, the track crew and Anthony Westergaard on a great event. I raced in 4 classes this weekend and scored a 1, 2, 2, and 3 for the event. Also, I was able to TQ in 2 of the classes. I’m pleased, but always want more.
________
I actually liked the format, in a long 8 minute practice session, we actually had time to pull in and test tires or a small adjustment during a run. Assuming you have no issues and running 4 classes 😎 helps, it gets you 30 minutes+ of track time before qualifying.
________
This is an event where the track is on the wet side and has some fluff on the outside. Mike Truhe and I rotated through different tire options. We tried Dirt Bite, Kosmos, Reflex, Falcons, and settled on Reflex on Truggy and Kosmos on buggy. We stuck with this pretty much the entire event and ran this way in the main events
________
The E-Buggy and E-Truggy classes seem to be getting so popular. The Hobbywing electrical was strong all weekend and reliable to the finish. I made very little changes to the settings which I ran previously at Nitro Challenge, PNB, and The Nitro RC Supercross.
I felt really good in these classes but came up just a little short getting 2nd in E-Buggy and 3rd in E-Truggy after some wild single 10 minute mains. The Tekno vehicles, so solid and strong in these classes and versatile between different tracks, layouts and surfaces. Congrats to Mason Fuller on taking both wins.
________
It was nice having Mike Truhe at the race and during the nitro events where everything was super close all weekend. Having the ability to pit at 9 minutes in both buggy and truck, I felt good going in to the mains running the Protek RC Samurai RM.1 engine with VP Fuel. I mounted a fresh set of Relfex for Truggy and decided to re-run my qualifying set of Kosmos for buggy.
________
It was nice to get out front in the truggy main and get into a rhythm. The Tekno was magic from start to finish, just taking everything I could throw at it. We had some great stops, and I was able to eliminate mistakes and take the win after 45 minutes. Congrats to Dakotah on 2nd place and Mason Fuller on 3rd.
________
The buggy main was probably the hardest race of the weekend. The track was changing, the lines were different and even though I got a great start, it was hard to find the rhythm and turn the laps needed early. I hung in there, got some great pit stops and started to find some speed. It was a long and gnarly race, Juan Carlos had a great race going and a little out of reach. I was fortunate to gain a spot after Rivkin suffered breakage and a couple of long crashes in front, allowed me to get back into 2nd. Dakotah and I battled and we barely made the extra lap and I was able to hold on to take 2nd overall. Congratulations to Juan Carlos Canas on taking the win and Dakotah with 3rd.
________
Post race inspection, the Protek servos all feel great and should be good to go at the Nationals warmup race. RM.1 engine passes the visual check and won’t require any Drake In maintenance quite yet. The FlySky radio continues to perform flawlessly and it feels better than ever.
________
Thanks to the crew for the fun times in the pits. Tekno RC, JConcepts, and Protek for trackside support and media coverage. I appreciate the family for holding things down at home and I can’t wait to be back.
