Race Report Nyköping 220702, full score!
Report from
RCBash 2022 #3 - Nyköping
The final race before the Euros was a test of some new parts as well as making sure the whole package delivered both performance wise and reliably. And we got a positive confirmation on both those aspects.
The Nyköping track is quite challenging as it offers 4 different surfaces, at certain parts you're afraid to grip roll and in others you're sliding around. This makes it very fun and most driver chose the MCD Astro Max tire as the best allround solution for the different surfaces. We actually used the same 4 tires as last year at this track, there we're a little bit rounded but was still good enough and did not have any problems with too much grip on the astro.
Already from the start we had good pace and speed, just trying out some different racing lines in the first qualy round.
As we won the quals we started first in the 1/8 A-final, took of right from the start and never looked back. We actually lapped the number 2 car twice during the 12 minute race showing we had really good pace as well as good average speed with few misstakes.
In the quarter final we set the fastest lap time of the day, and took another win even if we battled with some cars the first couple of laps before we found the flow.
The semifinal was also quite uneventful as we started first and got away great from the field already on the first alp and never looked back.
At this time of the day the track was really dusty so we changed our air filter which started to look a little bit used. This was really the only thing we had to do on the car for the day. We also choose to raise the car in the rear to not hit all the holes that had started to develop on the track. It was not hard to find a good racing line which didn't have any bumps or holes in it. But this is what off-road racing is all about, finding the fastest way to pass the obstacles on the track.
The 20 minute final was almost identical to the other finals. We got away with a great start, never rolled a single time and managed to find a way to get around the track without making any mistakes even if the lap times were now much slower the average time was almost 1.5 seconds faster than the second fastest car on the track. We ended up finishing 40 laps during the final with a safe distance to the number two car at 38 laps. The Ultron felt awesome during the whole event and the RV295 delivered plenty of punch both on the straights and out of the corners.
All in all this was a perfect race before the Euros to build confidence. We have now competed in 4 races this season with a win in all four. Now it's time to go over the car and make some maintenance especially in the steering that started to get a little bit of play so need to change the plastic bushings. The engine will get a new piston ring, but that's about it.
