At the World Championship held in Finland, the 4WD class, which started first, was in big trouble. The Yokomo's prototype car, which had been tested and practice for two years, struggled with the track layout and failed in qualifying. 
I retired in the B final and finished 20th.

For the first time in a RC race, I recorded the lowest place in almost 20 years. Since I was betting everything on the 4WD class, I went to the field after only two days of practice and preliminary tests for the 2WD class.

For the past two years, I have had little time to practice and test my 2WD. There is no way I can win in such a situation. Moreover, the 2WD class World Championship started with the shock of the crushing defeat of the 4WD class that challenged with full confidence.

While Team Losi entered the race with a new car and Team Kyosho entered with a prototype car, Our Team Associated's car was a mature production car.

Contrary to expectations, they set a series of good lap times, and although Team Losi's Mr. Brian Kinwald took the lead in qualifying, Mr. Mark Pavidis finished 2nd and I was 3rd.

In the final, I won the Championship after a fierce battle between the 3 cars. This was the first and last time I won the World Championship by starting the finals from a position other than 1st place in the qualifying.

フィンランドで開催された世界選手権では、最初に始まった4WDクラスで大波乱。2年間煮詰めて持ち込んだプロトカーがコースレイアウトに苦戦して予選落ち。決勝でもリタイヤして結果は20位だった。

ラジコンレースを初めてほぼ20年の中で最下位を記録した。4WDクラスに全てを賭けていたので、2WDクラスの練習及び事前のテストはたったの2日間しか行えずに現地入りしていた。

2WDのテスト走行や練習時間は殆ど取ることができなかったこの2年間。そんな状況で優勝など出来るわけがない。しかも自信満々で挑んだ4WDの大敗のショックを引きずったまま、2WDクラスの世界選手権がスタートした。

チームロッシはニューマシン、チーム京商はプロトタイプマシンで参戦する中、我々チーム アソシエイテッドのマシンは熟成された市販車だった。

すると予想に反して好タイムを連発、予選トップ通過こそチームロッシのブライアン・キンワルド氏にとられたが、マーク・パビダス氏が2位、広坂は3位で通過することができた。

決勝では3台による熾烈な優勝争いの末、何と広坂が優勝した。予選1位以外からの決勝スタートで優勝した世界選手権はこれが最初で最後だった。
