The 2021 US Open is in the books.![]() The 2021 US Open is in the books. Always good times there in El Paso with the Showers family showing us all the hospitality. The track this year Anthony put in was quite the challenge and added some technicalities throughout. With the changing prep to the track, we raced mains on a totally different track than Friday and Saturday.

After the quals I was able to wrench on 2 of the 3 cars for mains, Sunday. I felt like I wanted to challenge myself and run all 3 classes and boy was it a tough weekend for it. I put the truggy on pole, ebuggy was 6th, and nitro buggy I was 4th on the grid for the semi. Adding grip to the cars for Fri and Sat conditions definitely wasn't needed for the dry, grooved and bumpy surface on Sunday. Making changes a long the way Sunday was tough, we woke up to 30+MPH winds blowing our pits over so we spent time moving that morning and left little time for wrenching and the proper changes I wanted to make. Going into mains, ebuggy was first and it was a hard main as my car was soft and had to soft of diffs but we managed and I got up to 2nd for a bit, but couldn't hang on to a podium. Truggy went okay, changes were made and it felt good in the warmup but due to the elevation we were racing at, it definitely challenged your tuning abilities. I ended up putting to hot of a tune on her, and she ran great with a slight run on making timing everything even harder, I'd settle for P2 behind my boy Fluffy, congrats on the Win! Nitro buggy semi was just horrible, my car was to soft for everything and I just drove it to a top 10 starting position for the hour long finale. Thrashing after the semi to work on the nitro car, it certainly paid off. I wish I could've done more, but having 1 hour to change 3 diffs, charge battery, change air filter, 4 shocks and some small things, then glue tires was definitely a challenge in itself. Starting P10, I quickly drove through the dusty conditions with sun beeming in our eyes. Made my way to the top 5 just a few laps in. Shortly after, I found myself in 4th, catching up to Rivkin and Tebo in the 2 & 3. Rivkin was able to kick it in another gear while Tebo and I battled long and hard for a good 40 minutes. There around 40 minutes we managed to catch up to Rivkin while pushing the pace and I actually got into 2nd for a lap or two. But then I had to pit and between that and a gnarly wreck, I fell behind and lost touch until the end. Finishing in p4 was a positive. My car felt good during the main, my engine, my tires everything felt comfortable to drive for the hour. Big big thanks to Ryan Reese for allowing me to come out to Lake Elsinore and run all weekend at The Dirt Perris before the Open. Another thanks to Christian Showers for the hospitality and providing us the kickass facility in El Paso to race. Anthony Westergaard for the tricky, technical layout that challenged everyones driving ability and brain strength all together. Lastly, a huge thanks to my sponsors for making it all possible. HB and Futaba make it possible for me to travel to a lot of races and I'm super thankful for that as well as the rest of my sponsors for their awesome equipment they provide me with. Thanks to my boy Walker Spinrad for the shots of the cars this weekend, and all the good times! HB Racing REDS Racing HotRace Tyres MKS Servos Absolute Hobbyz VP Racing Fuels Performa J&T Bearing Co.
