To connect all parties in the RC industry and hobby to create new and greater values for everybody.
Our belief
By using modern technologies we can grow the industry and make it more sustainable for companies and more enjoyable and engaging for individuals.
Mission
To build a data driven platform uniquely designed for the needs of the RC industry and all the players within it. The platform should be crowd sourced and open and rely on the community to build value and enforce quality. When connecting all the important aspects of the industry new values and insights will arise that hasn't been possible by generic platforms like social media or forums or niche solutions like event registration or time keeping systems.
The core principles of the platform are:
- Create a holistic information model of the whole RC industry and community
- Crowd sourced and open, powered by all, excluding none
- Developed and driven by real needs, we understand the industry and people
- Flexible and customizable to fit everyone, one size fits all doesn’t apply here
- New services and features never seen before in RC powered by modern technology

Press Release - House of RC 2.0![]() House of RC 2.0 is taking a giant leap with focus on personalisation, usability, mobility, engagement and pure fun!January 25, 2023 – We’re extremely proud and excited to announce the immediate launch of House of RC 2.0. We launched 1.0 almost exactly two years ago and it’s now used by thousands of users around the world every month. It has become the de-facto signup platform in many countries and different RC federations around the world uses it for their races. With over 2000 RC resources, 1500 tracks, 1400 products and 1200 organizations it’s the biggest RC database in the market. This gives users, who are part of creating the content, great value when everything is in one place and the possibility to provide unique experiences. The number of different ways people uses the platform has astonished us and we have have just started. With version 2.0 we’re taking a giant leap in many different areas. We have focused on five different themes to deliver the best value and experience for the community and industry:
Each theme in itself requires an article to explain all the changes, improvements and new features. Overall there are over 200 new features, big and small as well as enhancements and bug fixes. Read all about it at https://houseofrc.com/news. “This lays the foundation for the future of House of RC and takes the whole experience to the next level. We couldn’t be happier about the result and we can’t wait for our users to try it out and see how they will build their workbenches and profile pages.”, says Conny Svensson, founder of House of RC. One of the biggest improvements is the mobile experience, more than half our members uses House of RC from their phones, either thru the iOS or Android apps or directly in the web browser. The navigational structure and how you interact with the content has been completely revamped. The apps have been updated to deliver and even better native experience with push notifications and rich photo viewer for even more engaging experiences on the go. Make sure to update or download the app for your phone for the optimal experience. What really sets this release apart from 1.0 is the new clean design, it’s light and airy. It’s much easier to consume and interact with. But if you like the dark you can choose a different theme and even completely customize the start page, which we now call the workbench. As an insider you will be able to design your profile page, change colors, background and the layout of the page and order of the panels. This lets you design your profile and make it personal or your organisation’s profile page to fit your brand. It’s a whole web site building tool but data driven with RC content. We have rebranded the supporter plan into the new insider program. As an insider you will now have access to many exclusive features that really make you standout as well as make your experience better. At the same time we always look at creating the best possible experience for our core user base on the free tier, this will never change. We will also provide insider only content and also introduce a new business model later where people can earn money on their RC content as an insider. We want to build a healthy platform that benefits everyone. There are so many things we could talk about but we think it’s better you just head over to https://houseofrc.com and experience it yourself. If you want to know more about what’s new go to https://houseofrc.com/news to read all about it. Don’t forget to follow us on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/houseofrc and engage in House of RC Members group. Please share this news with your friends and in your channels, we want everyone to have a chance of trying the new House of RC. Engagement and interactivityOne key goal with House of RC 2.0 has been to raise the level of engagement and interactivity on the site. It should not be just a place to find info or sign for an event but also discuss and engage with the content. Facebook is great and we would be foolish to think we could compete with that but there is a point in discussing and engage with content in a structured way that can also be easily found over time. Facebook has their smart algorithms that serves you the posts they know will generate the most click and engagement, they’re not serving you what you want. It’s also much more here and now in the moment. But let say you want to go back in time to find that setup sheet or that race report, it’s not that easy.

We think that a platform built from the ground up around all the things that matters in RC, tracks, clubs, brands, products, events, etc and make a structure around it and how they link to each other we can create more convenient and sustainable value. It’s not replacing what’s out there but complementing it. What House of RC 2.0 could replace are forums as it now provides all the same functionality but maybe served a little bit differently. It’s like we merged Facebook and forums together but with a terminology and structure built around RC. When you enter House of RC 2.0 you will immediately see a big button encouraging you to share something RC related, it could be a post, a link, an image a video or anything really like starting a discussion. This is the RC Wall, it shows all the latest “global” posts from the community as well as resources from your network and your favorites. This means you’re in control of what is shown here by building your network of organisations and users or adding favorites to your club, home track or products you own. Whenever there is new content posted on those pages you will see them on your wall. All posts you create will show up on your personal profile page as well, but you can go in and hide them from your profile if you want to. We provide a lot of flexibility but are trying to struck a balance and still make it easy and quick to work with. Something that is also new is that you can like and comment on EVERYTHING! This means that you can ask a question about a product on the product page, or like a setup sheets someone posted, write something on the event page. So this makes every item a potential forum thread. How do you know when someone commented on something you posted? You will get an email (there will be an opt out for this) and if you have the app installed you will receive a push notification. Clicking on the email or the notification will bring you right into the conversation. We also added a whole new menu for notifications so it’s easy to check when any of the pages you follow have updated content or when there are new events at your local club. When don’t want you to miss anything important in your RC world! We also made it easier to share content outside of House of RC, on every post there will be a Share function but also there will be a Share button on each page as explained earlier on the mobile experience. You can now easily send this via email, message or post on Facebook when you find something ingesting or want to share your next event. We think the structure and data driven nature of House of RC combined with the social graph and great tools of Facebook is a killer combination! These were only the main features for increasing engagement on the platform, there are many small things we have done to improve this. We’re not done with this and the RC Wall on the start page will continue to evolve to be smarter and better to provide you with real value, not to be optimised for creating monetary value for a big corporation. We build House of RC for the community by the community! |
What's new in House of RC 2.0?We launched 1.0 almost exactly 2 years ago and it’s now used by thousands of users around the world every month. This gives users, who are part of creating the content, great value when everything is in one place and the possibility to build unique features. The number of different ways people uses the platform has astonished us and we have have just started. But this has not without friction or problems. Many of the original designs weren't scaling or the user interface was too flexible and had too many options or just not intuitive enough.

To be able to move forward and build new features we needed to take some big steps in a number of areas to be able to scale and still make it fun and intuitive to use. We had to set certain things aside that we know a lot of you users wants to be able to focus on this release. But now we have something that we feel confident and proud of to take us into the next phase of the platform. With version 2.0 we’re taking a giant leap in many different areas. We have focused on 5 different themes to deliver the best value and experience for the community and industry. Click on each area to read more about the details and get the full story.
We managed to get more into this release than originally planned, but at the same time we still have things in our development roadmap that we know is needed, but we will ship those as part of continues improvements during the year. Then we have some big very exciting feature that we will start working on for the next phase. We hope you like this update and contact us at contact@houseofrc.com with any questions or feedback or support@houseofrc.com if you find any bugs or issues with the new release. Enjoy House of RC 2.0! |
Stability and performance![]() This might be the least exciting part but no the least important part. Stability and performance are key metrics for a pleasant user experience. There will always be bugs in any type of software solution, but the goal is to have all the regular use cases hassle free without any quirks. This might not always be about a bug but receiving a hard to understand technical error message from the backend when trying create a duplicate of something. We have tried to make the most common cases much more pleasant to run into and give back better information to the user. We have bug tracking systems in place so we can see what the most common problems are and then fix them one byt one until only the really rare problems are left.

Stability is also about building for the future. This means we have upgrade our whole software stack both on the server side and on the client as well as the mobile apps. This way we support the newest phones and their features as well as keep up with any type of security measures and other things. The same was we work through and optimise our code so does the Thord part libraries and solutions we rely on. So just by keeping them up to date we automatically can gain stability and performance. Another part of stability is refactoring code. Over time your code and feature does things it wasn’t designed to do in the first iteration, you add stuff on top and on the side. Refactoring code makes it more manageable and also provide for more flexibility to build new features. We also need to keep up to date with guidelines from Google and Apple for their platforms as they require certain things that didn’t exist when the apps were originally launched. This necessarily doesn’t giv you any benefits but it’s just to follow their policies. If you choose not to do so they might remove your apps from the App Store and Google Play. It’s not all about code thou. The database is one of the key parts of a data driven platform. We have optimised the table layout, created better indexes that has improved certain operations from seconds down to a tenth of a second. Another way to improve performance is to optimise and tweaks the queries made to the database, and sometimes caching data to not hit the database at all. We have also increased memory on the database server and configured it to hold more of the data in memory which makes all operations much faster. The last piece is the physical hardware. House of RC runs on services on Amazon Web Services deployed both in US and Europe to scale and be close to the users. We also have content replicators so static files can be served as close as possible to the user. We have upgraded our EC2 instances on AWS to have more CPUs and more memory. It was part of this upgrade and a move of out domain registrar that caused the domain problem during Christmas when the domain was down for 5 days. That is something we don’t want to ever happen again. For some people this might be technical mumbo jumbo but we hope it gives you a feeling of how many things that we need to think about and take care of to host and operate a platform like House of RC. We would love to just focus on writing new a great features for you to benefit from, but if the infrastructure and the software stack is not stable and performant we wouldn’t be able to do that. Next time we will post about one of the biggest new areas of House of RC 2.0, personalization and customization. |
VisionTo connect all parties in the RC industry and hobby to create new and greater values for everybody. Our beliefBy using modern technologies we can grow the industry and make it more sustainable for companies and more enjoyable and engaging for individuals.MissionTo build a data driven platform uniquely designed for the needs of the RC industry and all the players within it. The platform should be crowd sourced and open and rely on the community to build value and enforce quality. When connecting all the important aspects of the industry new values and insights will arise that hasn't been possible by generic platforms like social media or forums or niche solutions like event registration or time keeping systems. The core principles of the platform are:
![]() The storyWe used to have forums that were specialized for different type of RC and regions of the world. We had print magazines where you could read reviews and browse the hobby shop ads. Then Facebook entered the scene and changed everything, both good and bad. We’re now in a situation where it’s hard to find structured information (forums were great for this) or every post is turned into a heated political or religious debate where the original question or comment is all forgotten. We have different providers of timekeeping platforms which are great during the event but what happens after the event with that data? How do I as a hobby shop owner reach customers, and the right customers? How do I find trusted information and reliable sources that can help me with a problem with my setup? How can a company reach out to all their customers even if they haven’t signed up for your Facebook page? How do I find the closest on-road track that is wheelchair accessible or how do I find the closest hobby shop that sells 1/8 off-road cars? What we need is something that ties it all together, that is built for the specific needs of the RC community. What we need is the House of RC! Brands produce products (and individual can as well) and retailers (online or physical stores) sells them, but not in our platform (we don't want to change companies business models). We have different type of places, like tracks, fields, venues, lakes (for RC boat enthusiats). These can be owned by a retailer, club or organizer, but some are built and operated by individuals. Then you have race organizers that organizes big or small races and events. Events that produces results and achievements for the drivers. Permanent tracks might have a high score list of best lap times. But when you do a change of the layout you create a new version of the track and it should reset the lap times. A racer can be part of a team or sponsored by a brand, but can also be a member of a club. The club need to keep track of it’s members and if they have paid their club or track fees. They need something to track all transactions and help them with managing their members. These things are all physical things in the real world but the sixth entity is online resources. These point to all the things that already exists on the web today, could be forums, Facebook pages, podcasts, manufacturers sites, online stores, You Tube videos, setup sheets anything that can be represented with a link. These can then be tagged with attributes and collected in lists so that we help each other find these resources that today are scattered around the internet, why not a list for all RC podcasts? We have a long list of features we would like to do, but we're holding of on sharing some of them. Maybe you have a specific feature you would like to see? Nothing in the market provides all these features in one single coherent solution where the value increases exponentially. Because when you connect all these things together you can start doing some really interesting things with the data. You can create dashboards and graphs to visualize the performance of a brand in the market, or how many cars each fanatic owns, or what tire is most common on carpet tracks, or how many people owns a large scale car in Sweden, or how many members do regularly drive at the track, or how big is the reachable market of hobbyists for a new product I want to sell. The type of analysis you can do once you have all data in one place is only limited by your imagination. Does this sound like it's better than taking out your RC ride on a sunny day? Actually, nothing is better than that, but the next best thing? Lets make this even better, because who is going to own all this data? You own it, the community owns it. We will provide an open APIs for anyone to download the connected RC graph so you can do custom queries and reports in Excel or wherever. But it will only be as good as the amount and quality of data we can collect, that's why the platform is open and free for everyone. And just like Wikipedia we will have a system where everybody can contribute and enter their favorite clubs, products and companies. We will have moderators making sure the data is correct and we have no duplicates. Some specific features for clubs, shops or manufacturers might be offered thru a subscription service in the future but mostly this will be financed by the community via crowdfunding and ads. |
